Dr. Najif Ismail has an unusual past experience. He chases earthquakes around New Zealand and beyond!
Najif’s primary research interests is to help build earthquake resilience into buildings by improving seismic assessment procedures and developing new innovative strengthening techniques for application to earthquake prone buildings structures. This research has taken him to epicentres of several devastating earthquakesin New Zealand and beyond. He is the recipient of the TMS Best PhD Thesis Award, the OP Staff Award for Excellence, and the 2016 UAE-MoID Award for Innovation and Sustainability.
Najif has authored more than 40 peer-reviewed articles, and numerous technical reports. He has contributed to the submission made to the Canterbury Earthquakes Royal Commission. He is a reviewer for several top rated journals and was a member of the ASCE 41-13/41 standards review committee.
